The Weill-Cornell Ambulatory Care and Education Building on York Avenue and 70th Street constitutes the first step in a state-of-the-art campus for this prestigious medical school. In addition to housing the advanced clinical facilities for departments such as Dermatology, Hypertension, ENT, IVF and Cardiology, the 15-story, 300,000 S.F. structure provides a central medical conference center and physician training in its Clinical Skills and Teaching Center. Conceived as a diaphanous skin, the white ceramic fritted glass curtainwall is cut into vertical facets. These gently sloped vertical surfaces reflect the gothic motif of the original New York Hospital campus across York Avenue, while its luminous veil suggests a new direction for healthcare: elegant, inviting and refined.
